Illinois' Governor, Bruce Rauner, just dumped longtime State Superintendent for Anthony "Tony" Smith, the former Oakland, California superintendent.  Smith becomes the 4th appointed State Superintendent since the 1970 Illinois Constitutional Convention did away with the elected office of the Superintendent for Public Instruction, and the 28th State Superintendent.  Here's a link to the article.  Here's a link to his photo.  He sounds like a strong advocate for children.  Only time will tell.

Good luck, Dr. Smith!
